Confocal Microscopy is a highly specialised non-invasive optical biopsy technique now available at Perth Dermatology Clinic.
Confocal microscopy is recommended in the following settings:
1. As a non-scarring alternative to traditional skin biopsy, for assessing appropriately selected pigmented skin lesions.
2. For pre-surgical margin mapping of lentigo maligna (melanoma in situ) at complex and cosmetically sensitive sites.
3. Post treatment monitoring of lentigo maligna (melanoma in situ) with narrow or incomplete margins of excision, not suitable for further surgery.
Confocal microscopy complements our high risk melanoma service, total body photography and use of dermatologist supervised artificial intelligence at Perth Dermatology.
Referrals from general practitioners, skin cancer clinics, dermatologists, oncologists and surgeons are welcome.
